about KARI MECCA
Kari’s eye for the unexpected combined with her ability to capture the magic of childhood gives her designs unique appeal to today’s seamstress. She is the designer and owner of Kari Me Away, a business catering to those who love sewing, embellishing and hand embroidery. Kari has authored the books, Sewing with Whimsy and Silk Ribbon Whimsies, and co-authored Silk Ribbon Weaving and Embroidery. She has also designed and published a line of sewing patterns that include clever embellishing and creative embroidery designs. As a regular contributor to Sew Beautiful magazine, she has seen her designs grace many covers.
Kari grew up surrounded by women who enjoyed sewing and embroidery. There was never a shortage of supplies or encouragement to indulge her creativity. Kari Me Away started out as a custom sewing business for private clientele, but Kari’s focus changed after she won a design contest sponsored by Sew Beautiful. She was commissioned to write articles for the magazine and shortly thereafter began publishing embroidery design plates, teaching, writing books and designing patterns and kits. Of those, teaching and sharing her love of heirloom sewing are the most important parts of her business. Having studied heirloom techniques, fine hand embroidery and pattern drafting in both this country and abroad, she shares her exceptional skills and encourages students around the world. She is a regular instructor at Martha Pullen’s School of Art Fashion and the Smocking Arts Guild of America as well as shops and local guilds.
